A fascinating zoom meeting in which Steve Gill explained about the different types of photographic techniques and the way in which damaged images can be treated. Some which looked beyond hope were restored to near-perfect condition. If you missed the meeting, a recording can be accessed by contacting our Secretary. If you want to contact Steve Gill directly about using his services for restoration of photographs, contact on steve@photo-consult.co.uk

A dozen members attended to continue research into family trees. We also had visitors to try out the facilities. These meetings are designed as a fairly calm space to chat and ask for help about researching family history.

a busy morning, with several members telling us about their "black sheep" or interesting characters! We travelled from Leeds and Womersley, to Derbyshire, Kent and then over to Tasmania, New Zealand and Australia. Most stories involved a court case, hard labour or guilty verdicts

What a great evening at Selby High School last week helping pupils and parents research their World War One ancestors.  Our very own David Rigby, also member of York Family History Society gave a talk on researching military history and pupils were able to begin their own research with the help of our Chair Jenny Hammond, Yvonne Clarke from York and the staff of the history department at the school.  It was a pleasure to see so many young people starting their own journey into their past and wish Selby High School every success with their continued research.

A research and training session

A zoom talk from Karen Evans about a murderer from the 1800s. The level of research was incredible, and the presentation fascinating, despite the subject. If you want to see the talk, email our secretary or chair and they can send you the link and passcode.

Committee meeting held alongside a research session.

Despite a few technical issues, about 20 members contributed to a session, including Pat sharing precious pictures from a visit to Ypres and other memorial sites, David sharing the story of a war grave in Italy, Christine telling us about the Commonwealth War Graves at Hemingbrough and the story of Arthur L S Davies, recounted to us by Dale and Jenny. Thank you all for your contributions

A quiet morning of research, but useful for those who attended. A warm morning!

We had a very interesting tour of the war graves in the Fulford Cemetery.
Our guide Paul Bennett (A volunteer from the CWGC) was extremely knowledgeable and we all learned things we didn't know before.
Despite the chilly weather, (we were all cold but the rain held off) we had a great time listening to Paul tell us about the history behind the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and the wartime stories of many of those who are remembered in the cemetery. Words supplied by our Secretary - thank you

A good number of members came to exchange ideas and information about research, make enquiries and drink coffee!

Christine raided her attic once more to tell us about a member of the clergy who travelled widely and wrote a book. Also, we had far-ranging discussion on records, graves and Bradford cemeteries. A full session!
