About 15 members gathered in a warm Town Hall studio to continue research and exchange ideas about how to move forward. It also included looking through family negatives on our scanner and speaking to a member in Sunderland via Whatsapp to find out their area of interest. A good morning!

A visit from Tee Bylo, telling us about the adventures of a curate from Selby Abbey, the Solloway story.

A research meeting was held in the studio at Selby Town Hall

A good number met to share stories from the past - an evacuee from Bexhill, pictures from a childhood in Redcar and a story of a family from the past with connections to Newby Hall and Monk Fryston Hall. We finished with a film from 1965 about our town of Selby, very entertaining.

A fair number arrived to research family trees or ask questions relating to sources available

24th March - a good crowd gathered to hear Mary Smith speak to us from Kent about A Schoolgirl's war, especially at Maidstone Girls Grammar School. The time was brought to life by pictures painted and sketched by the Art teacher at the time, who kept a war diary. It was a fascinating talk and we also had visitors joining by zoom to hear and see the talk. A good morning. Thank you Mary!

Just over a dozen members met to continue research or exchange ideas and information. Has anyone else used ChatGPT to enhance photos and make writing more legible? This could be a future meeting topic!

Several contributions to the session, telling us about local people.

A quiet morning of research, asking of questions and exchanging website addresses.

David Lewis gave a very informative and entertaining talk about Jonathan Hutchinson, who was born in Selby. He made his name as a surgeon, but contributed to life in many ways, not least setting up two museums, one in Selby.

Slightly fewer members attended the meeting today, but I'm sure it was a useful time.

A well attended meeting heard from some of our members telling us about interesting characters in their family tree, one having very strong views about religion and another having a close relationship with alcohol! it was a very entertaining morning, thanks to all concerned.
